Beta Reading

1) Does dialogue contribute to or take away from the story?
Dialogue can be a very important part to book, allowing the reader to clearly identify the thoughts drifting through the characters in the book. While, it is an important it can begging to overshadow the actual events taking place. It can begging to overshadow and become very overused if the reader in unaware the situation. The eighth chapter clearly begins with an action/event relating to Dorothy and swiftly drifted to dialogue between her and her best friend Stella. The beginning of the dialogue between the two best friends started casual and the drifted into something more than a conversation, something like a very long conversation. The dialogue in the chapter is really long, and since dialogue is always held between two or more people it always jumps between the people talking. I became slightly overwhelmed in comprehending what the actual two people were saying throught the conversation. The dialogues is roughly four pages. In a way it may be a lot to handle in that small portion of a chapter.
Even though, the dialogue may be slightly long it became a little light  and changed in the sense where  thoughts were incorporated thought more in depth.  There wee many sections incorporated between the dialogue where there was writing to state the meaning of what they were saying, giving the sufficient amount of background information. As the background information was incorporated top the dialogue, it the amount of dialogue seem slightly less dramatic. To make an improvement in the way where the dialogue does not extremely over shadow the main key components of the book could be by limiting the actual amount that is incorporated. Condensing the dialogue could help to swiftly guide the reader. the dialogue could be condensed by decreasing the amount and taking unnecessary components that are unimportant in the way where it does not ultimately change the way the characters are talking and interacting. With decreasing the level of the dialogue, the reader can clearly focus on the main ideas and the point of the dialogue rather than drifting away with the little unnecessary points.

Esperanza's future

Esperanza grew up in the Chicago cuts moving around from house to house. A significant place for Esperanza was little red house on Mango Street.  The house tempted Esperanza giving her many twits. The little red house on Mango Street allowed Esperanza to sense a place of her own, something to call a home,no one could take. Though no one could take the actual possession she held, opinions and Esperanza's analysis led to discouragement. Towards the beginning of the book Esperanza realized her place, compared to normal big star standards.
“Once we were living on loomis a nun from my school passed by and saw me playing out front....
Where do you live? she asked.
There, i said pointing up to the third floor.
You live there?
...the way she said it made me feel like nothing. There. I lived There, I nodded.”(Page 5)
Esperanza was willing to understand the nun when she questioned where she lived. But as the nun asked where she lived, Esperanza realized more in dept within herself and her community. From that moment on Esperanza began to grow as a person and to understand her purpose.
Even though Esperanza faced several problems she encountered throughout her life she never did allow any of them to hold her back. Relating to trees and windows understand in dept positions in her surroundings she swiftly moved on from hating herself, wanting more and being like everyone else, into using resources surrounding her. Esperanza began to utilize the resources among her community to go forward, overcoming obstacles she faced.  “They will know i have gone away to come back. for the ones i left behind” (Page 110)She was able to move forward with her life and has a bright future among her life. Esperanza's inspiration came from her community to become a better person. From her inspiration it is obvious she plans to assist her community.Esperanza becoming successful will be driving to go back and change her community. Esperanza is thankful of the surroundings and learning moments she faced throughout her life in the united community around mango street.

Sandra Cisneros Raising Children

Sandra Cisneros clearly identifies the differences between gender within the the book . As Sandra Cisnerios states, her childhood held many interesting occasions. Esperanza, grew up  moving within the Chicago street, to a little secluded house on mango street.
Esperanza had interactions with children in the neighborhood stating differences within her siblings. Esperanza stated there stood a dramatic change outside of her house.  “The boys and girls live in separate worlds. the boys in their universe and we in ours. My brothers for example. They've got plenty to say to me and Nenny inside the house. But the outside they cant be seen talking to girls. Carlos and kiki are each others best friend... not ours"(Page 8) Esperanza noticed the differences stating the interactions her brothers held. Esperanza was born into a family where gender held specific distinctions in actions. An example, included who children could socialize with. Males since young children, could not excessively interacted with females and do feminine based  actions.
Another example of interactions based on society, was sally. Sally a young woman recently married, began a new life that would change the way Esperanza viewed her position of males and women. Sally stood far away from leading and making decisions to form a life for herself and her dreams. “She sits at home because she is afraid to go outside without his permission”(page 102).As a newly wed, Sally stood all day long within the walls of her house, waiting for something to do. So many people in Esperanza’ community expected women to marry extremely young and act on the wishes of their husbands.
Esperanza wanted to go against the her community and base things for herself and her life. Witnessing the difficulties for women, Esperanza wanted to change the standards she was upheld to. Esperanza was beginning to go against the expectations and started drifting to becoming independent. She did not let the differences stop her from  becoming strong. Esperanza wanted to be equal to males, allowed to build a life, work, family.  Esperanza’s future withheld allowing differences in gender to affect her position in life.

Up and Down

TABLE CONTENTS:

Running wheels
Both a parents and child's dream to grow up, to become successful. Growing up means going through stages and wanting to be better than what a person really feels. When kids are five they seek to be seven, when nine they seek to be twelve when thirteen they want to be twenty one and so on.  There is something that students don't ever want to accomplish when they see older people doing it. I always wanted to climb on a bike and ride it freely through the streets with the wind blowing back through my hair as i swiftly pass. though, i had a big dream i could never accomplish it, i attempted to reach m,y goal several times. Every weekend from eight in the morning until ten. i would always wake up quickly and run outside to the backyard. While my sisters slept i took their bikes and tried to ride them
As i climbed the bike and did not fall my emotions began to fly and raise quite rapidly. i began to ride and the wheels on the bike began  to turn  and go. i was so happy that i was riding the bike and then all of sudden i fell. without a warning or a thought about falling  i was already on the floor. My dreams would always shatter instantly i never was able to accomplish my dream thoroughly.
even though i always feel there was never one weekend where i would wake not wake up early and take time into attempting to ride a two wheel bike. i was tired of my bike styled out with the training wheels. My dream would never be put down, since i knew i had the possibility of accomplishing it.
My sisters began to notice me and tried to put me down. instead of letting it affect me and discourage me i tried even harder to show them i could do it. The last weekend before my birthday,  i woke up and strongly wanted to ride my bike. i was very determined and was going to put in all of my effort into riding my bike. I knew that i could so it. i concentrated all of my effort into working and riding my bike. i climbed on to the high seat and i started riding the bike it was so quick. the wheels began turning and i peddled faster and the bike was as quick as a speeding bullet.
At the moment that i started peddling my sister woke up and headed out the door. they stood out the door precisely at the moment where i was quickest. I was feeling beast! I felt so good as if the world had ended and i was the only left alive, like if the moon had fallen into my hands, i felt extremely powerful.
Shoes
Shoes. The shoes my family wear tend to show our personality. I focus on wearing easy flat slim shoes that don't over exaggerate the size of my foot. i have many shoes that tend to focus on what i feel and for different occasions. with having different types of shoes it leads to priority of specific one compared to others. I have shoes i rarely wear which i clean after every use, while i also have some that i wear many days a week and i clean about once a month. My most prized shoes i keep hidden in the darkness of my closet and Ive never ever wore them, i have kept them for almost a year. The shoes i have not wore to this day have huddled together to keep each other company.
On the other hands my sister has a collection of boots high heels and pumps. Blue Green Yellow Orange Red Black Silver Gold and sooo much more. She has if not all most of the color pallet. Her boots are sharp, shiny, with shtrap, shtrapless, buttons, no buttons.  So similar but are meant to be worn with different clothes, or at least to her knowledge.
Similarly my middle sister/child has a weird shoe thing. My sister has at least 50 pairs of shoes. Her shoes are all sneakers, but the difference between them is the brand. My sisters top priority on her brands she has nikes, jordans, coach, vans, etc. She has sooo many pairs.
Me and my sisters share the same type of ways we hoard and what we hoard but in different angles and points. We all share keeping many shoes but we range in how we use, store and what we look for specifically in the shoe.
Turning the Sides
In third grade no one ever ponders or reflects actions. A normal third grade day for me vegan having fun while learning. This day was going as usual, nothing differing same old same old. All the the events that were happening that day was normal.
The day was swiftly passing, like the sand in an old fashion timer. I was happy when it was finally time for lunch. As I finished eating my lunch I drifted my way back to the classroom. I was as bored as a gold fish with only seconds in their time span.
In result of being bored i made the decision to want to have fun. The school was built and had many railings leading to the classroom. I climbed on the railings and attempted to make a one hundred and eighty degree turn. I was seeking to feel the magic of adrenaline rushing through my body. I began the complicated process of holding on to the  railing and turning on to the ground. Without a warning or any moments for my symphatetic autonomic nervous system to react, the grip of my small smudgy hands clenched with finger  painting hands left the railings. As my hands let go of the railing i fell, my body drifted and slid through the hard poky cement/black top on the elementary school floor. My face looked like a tomato. I screamed out for help and was prompted with a quick response from one of the P.E teacher coaches. The coach asked, “What led you to wanting to turn. I have specifically warned you before hand that the railings are dangerous and a place not to play. Now lets hurry and take you to the nurse.”
I murmured “Uh Huh, I'm sorry. Now I know,” i did not know how to respond other than feeling shame and regretting my actions. I felt the world weighing on my shoulders aside from the horible scrapes and scratches on face, that were bleeding me a river. From that moment on I became aware of the extent on rules.

Trees

In the book the house on mango street by Sandra Cisneros the book contains many types of figurative language to emphasize and make the main topics of the story clear for the reader. The main character in the book is a young woman named Esperanza living a poor Hispanic base community where she faces difficulties, having Many adventures attempting to over come. The author uses and focuses alliteration on trees. Trees in the chapter meme Ortiz and in the four skinny trees it seems to signify and relate back to the characters. The characters in that chapter include Esperanza and meme both young teens. The trees and both of teenagers seem to both face struggles of being somewhere and growing/being in unwanted places and situations. "Down at the base of the tree, the dog with tow names barks into the empty air"(Page 22)Esperanza faces the struggle of her low income community. While esperanza may truly understand her family situation she believes other will begin to judge her family. Having a friend such, and a nun comment on her house further led her to feel as if she does not fit in. Though esperanza may feel as if people may not understand her she perseveres rather than letting people get in her way.
Esperanza begins to relate to the four old skinny trees that are in front of her house. Those trees all understand each other. They face the difficulty of not fitting in or being wanted. "They are the only ones who understand me. i am only one who understands them. Four skinny trees with and pointy elbows like mine" (Page 74)The trees face the difficulty of the cement in their roots, but they continue to grow not allowing them to hold then back. Esperanza believes and finds herself in a place where she believes that the trees are an exact mirror or reflection of who and what she is. She states that the trees are skinny while she has a skinny neck, the trees too have branch long thin arms. Esperanza feels as if she is another tree along side with the ones in her house.
The tree in meme Ortiz's house on the other hand was something not to mess with or go near since he began to climb it, he fell and broke both of his arms as a result. Esperanza found it to be resilient since it grew and stood out even more than the ones in front of her house. Though she may not want to climb it one more time she begins to point out that there are many squirrels in the top of the tree. The squirrels tend to symbolize that there is life and stands clear, it shows the tree did not allow anything from it to grow. The trees growing in esperanza's house to be as big as the one meme's house. It tends to show the possibilities of growing and being resilient. Meme's tree shows the future of esperanza's tree. The trees reflect on what esperanza feels and how she may overcome.

HOUSE ON MANGO STREET

The book, The house on mango street by Sandra Cisneros contains many stories that expresses sentimental value of the author. Sandra Cisneros in many occasions uses different form of symbolism and forms of figurative language to form a strong connection with the reader. Many if not all of the figurative language in the book is used to describe the characters. Throught the book she mostly compares and writes about herself. Sandra tends to give the main character in the book named Esperanza a feeling of self-resentment and not been pleased with herself, resources and many of the things around her.
An example, of figurative language that becomes commonly used is comparison and use of windows. Though the point and message that is been transmitted of windows may slightly differ through the chapters it tends build the point of being trapped and surrounded in her house and in the life that she is living in. “ Rafaela leans out the window and leans on her elbow and dreams her hair like Rapunzel’s” (Page 79). Esperanza becomes trapped and realizes the status and position that she stands in while in her community and what she shares along with other women. The windows represent a moment and a small piece of becoming free and being able to see the other side and understand different perspectives. The window begins to tempting her and shows her true position in wealth.
Esperanza only has that window to relief herself of been poor and been in a small community where people also have low incomes. Esperanza begins to use the windows and her view of her community and herself as a point from grow from and to become better. “She looked out the window her whole life the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow.” (Page 11)Esperanza wants to raise her expectations of herself to something beyond being poor.  She also uses the window as another portal to view herself differently and to change to something appealing to her through her perspective. “I wonder if she made the best with what she got or was she worried about the things she wanted to be.” (Page 11)
